Your Thornybush Family Safari Experience
Both children and adults will have a special and unforgettable time on a family safari in Thornybush Game Reserve.
It gives kids a fantastic chance to learn about and appreciate animals and conservation. A wide variety of animals, including the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino), as well as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and several bird species, can be found in Thornybush Private Game Reserve.
Kids can get a close-up look at these majestic creatures in their native habitat, creating awe and a knowledge of the value of conserving wildlife and ecosystems.
There are several family-friendly activities available at Thornybush Game Reserve for both children and adults. Game drives serve as educational opportunities when knowledgeable guides impart their understanding of wildlife, its habits, and its surroundings.
Children on safari in Thornybush Game Reserve can actively participate in learning about the bush and wildlife through programmes offered by some lodges, including junior ranger activities, treasure hunts, and bush hikes.
Day 1: Your Adventure Begins!
You will catch a flight from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit and be transferred to Thornybush Game Reserve where your family safari adventure begins!
On arrival, your little ones will receive a complimentary "Ranger in Training" backpack, which will keep them entertained
and occupied during their stay. The pack includes a game activity book, reusable water bottle and an interactive safari toy.
After you have settled in at the lodge you will be eager to head out on your first game drive where you may be lucky enough to see some of the famous Big 5 wildlife (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo).
On your return to the lodge, you will be welcomed with a delicious supper that includes a kid-friendly menu.
Your Family Suite can accommodate the whole family in 3 bedrooms plus a lounge with an open fireplace between the two downstairs bedrooms creating a perfect place to relax and discuss the day’s wildlife sightings.
Day 2 & 3: The Ultimate Family Safari
Family bonds are strengthened by the shared joy of seeing wildlife, telling stories around the campfire, and taking in the majesty of the African environment and today you will get to experience all that.
Each day you can venture out on morning and afternoon guided game drives as well as a guided bush walk. Game drives and activities can be customized to your children’s ages and attention spans. Kids under 6 years are not permitted on a game drive but a babysitting service is available.
Your spacious Family Suite has Wi-Fi, a shared living area, a private kitchen, an outside deck, and a plunge pool so everyone will have a place to relax in between game viewing activities.
The main lodge boasts a spa, gym and rim-flow swimming pool - all with views of the waterhole where elephants and wildlife congregate! While you enjoy these facilities your little ones will be well taken care of at the kids club.
Some of the fun activities for kids include a treasure hunt, picnics next to the pool, educational bush walks, tracking wildlife by their paw prints and baking sweet treats.
Day 4: Farewell to the Wilderness
Start the final day of your Family Safari in Thornybush Game Reserve with a delicious breakfast and a final morning game drive. This is your last chance to spot those bucket-list animals you have always wanted to see.
You may be lucky enough to catch another glimpse of wildlife on your drive back to Hoedspruit before your flight back home.
